PRICE LEVELS ALONG THE ALGARVIAN COAST

"What can I get for my money"? This question is often asked by home buyers/investors looking for property. The answer, of course, is: "That depends on where you want to buy".
The price levels are quite different indeed. Following an overview of the general market prices not including "resort properties":

Western Algarve - 75.000 - 225.000
Central Algarve - 100.000 - 448.000
Eastern Algarve - 60.000 - 325.000*

Western Algarve - 75.000 - 175.000
Central Algarve - 100.000 - 598.000

At a quick glance, one can spot that the Central Algarve is the most expensive area, the West coming second and the East third.
* In the East there are still quite a few larger farms for sale - lots of land with old houses in need of total renovation.
Some of the prime areas of interest in the present market place:
West Algarve: Lagos, Alvor and Carvoeiro
Central Algarve: Albufeira, Vilamoura, Almancil and Loulé
East Algarve: Moncarapacho, Tavira and Monte Gordo
There seem to be different people buying into the various regions:
In the Central Algarve for example, one will find the largest group of foreign residents. This is probably due to the fact that this region offers the most facilities, amenities and best infrastructure.
The West coast, with its lovely "covey" beaches and still idyllic small fishing villages on the ocean, offers holiday home seekers a perfect spot.
The East coast, still the most "un-spoiled" region (maybe because of the Ria Formosa Nature Reserve) seems to attract the "alternative" buyer, who is looking for a bit of the peaceful "real" Portugal.
